Wow - nearly a month has passed since I was here. We have not been particularly busy or anything. Just up to our usual random life stuff!

Lets see... Katie had her first field trip for school this week. I have to put a plug in for my husband here. I was feeling lazy and didn't want to go on the field trip so I told Katie I needed to be home with Micah (which was not a lie) but when she asked Rick to go, he agreed immediately and with an enthusiasm I could not have mustered. He has done more field-tripping with her than I have, despite his fully justified fear of large groups of children! I am so proud of him. He even rode the school bus for 30 minutes each way to the pond. Now that is a real man!




In other Katie news, she is definately growing up as evidenced by a recent purchase. One of her great grandmothers gave her $10 a while back so last week when she had a day off from school, we took a lovely mother-daughter trip to the mall. She took her "hand bag" to carry her $10 (which she almost lost about 50 times). I figured Claires was about the most exciting place I could think of to spend $10, so there we went.

She went straight for the shoes. Straight. Bee line. Blinders on to the shoes.

I know this is typical for most women, but I have to say, I'm not really a shoe person. I usually have 3 or 4 pairs of flip flops this time of year and those are picked for comfort. But anyway, in the spirit of letting her get WHATEVER she wanted, she picked these flip flops. I can't quite describe how hard it was not to wet my pants upon exiting this store. She had the clerk cut the tags off so she could wear them out. She paused at the exit of the store and, with as much dignity as could be mustered considering she couldn't quite walk in the shoes, she hiked her pants up to her armpits, threw her hand bag over her arm and strutted/shuffled into the teaming masses of the mall with more attitude than I thought possible in a 6 year old! Again I ask myself, who is this child?




Of course, as distracting as the shiny red shoes are, we do happen to notice the other kid every now and then. Micah has mastered the art of garnering everyone's, and I do mean everyone's, attention. Here are some random pictures of this clown.
