For some strange reason, I am feeling a little pressured to blog. A fellow blogging friend of mine who has not updated her own blog since it last snowed here in SC was giving me some flack. Snow in SC, you ask? Yes, there were 137 flakes that fell about 3 MONTHS ago.
But there were a couple funny things that happened yesterday that I thought I would share. Unfortunately I didn't catch either on film for you so you will just have to take my word for them. In the afternoon, katie was coloring in our room while I worked on the computer. It got quiet for a minute, which means that she is either asleep or no longer in the room because Katie is rarely ever quiet. I called out to her and she wanders in from the bathroom, lips first. At least that's what it looked like because she colored on her lips with a very red marker. I couldn't hold back the laughs. After I recovered, I told her to wash it off because marker can hurt your skin/lips. "But it looks good mom", she said. "I don't care if my lips hurt. I like it!" That about sums up my daughter. I think that similar logic explains why some women like wearing extremely high heels, which she is also fond of!
Later that night, a very Micah thing happened. For those of you that haven't seen him lately, he has become an expert at harrassing his sister. He pinches and grabs and pulls and all those great things. He was sitting in his high chair eating a bedtime snack as Katie strolled by with a stick of string cheese, his favorite. He grabbed that cheese and shoved the whole thing in his mouth so fast that she didn't even see it happen. I think she even tried to take another bite before she realized it was gone! Micah, mouth packed to the lips with cheese, had the most satisfied smile on his face! Katie reacted in her own fast (which is not fast at all) way and tried to pry his mouth open to regain her cheese stick (probably because it was the last one in the bag). That boy has jaws of steel. He smiled so big and gritted his teeth so tight, we couldn't contain the guffaws. She eventually gave up and settled for eating some square cheese, in the other room! We figure that she tortured him for over a year - we'll give him at least a year to get her back!
I know - this is nothing that hasn't happened to everyone else but it was new to us! Just another day in paradise!

Today's Haiku
My son, a puppy
Wrestling, biting, chewing,
And pees everywhere.
Katie, feline-ish
Sleeps in the sun and stretches
All snuggly and soft.
Truly, I had an epiphany today at lunch. This is why I don't have any pets. I don't need animals around - I have my children and they are so much like a cat and dog. I don't say that in a negative way. Just consider...
Cat ----------------Katie
love to sleep -------- yes
love to be rubbed ---- yes
love to sit on you ---- yes
sheds a little -------- yes
finicky ------------ yes
moody ------------- yes
moves slow mostly --- yes
Puppy ------------- Micah
loves to wrestle ------- yes
chews on everything ---- yes
whines a lot----------- yes
runs fast ------------- yes
hard to house train ---- yes
wants to be let out ----- yes
tears everything up ---- yes
doesn't like to be held--- yes
likes to play the same game over
and over and over ------ yes
Just my thought for the day!

I can feel the love
I know - 2 posts in one day is kinda freaky. Just had to share the love. Katie was is a good mood tonight. She actually asked to skip eating and playing at Chick Fil A and just go through the drive thru so that we could take dinner to dad at work and eat with him! That is true love from a 5 year old.
Then tonight she prayed, "Dear God, thank you for my mom, my dad and my brother, but especially my mom and her awesome powers..."
Either I was a great mom today or she plans to ask me for something big tomorrow. Either way, I go to sleep with a smile!

Random Musings
It occurred to me the other day, as I was fighting off tears and feeling for blood on my cheek after a run-in with Micah's lego-filled hand as he reached out to steady himself on my face - those breathing exercises they teach in birthing class are less useful during the birthing process (when most sane people have pain medicine coursing through their veins - no offense Heather) than they are for the rest of the parenting experience. Daily, I find myself taking short, panting breaths after an upclose encounter with my kids, such as when their heads whack my own (and it rarely seems to hurt them) during a run-by kiss, or when their sharp litttle knees and elbows dig in as they make themselves more comfortable on my lap, or when their flailing legs (shoes on, of course) kick the fool out of me during a fit, or when they nurse after growing that first tooth... You get the idea. I guess what I am saying is, don't skip the birthing classes. Even if you plan to have a c-section, you will need the breathing techniques for the rest of your life!
Next thought.. we got the most entertaining and least annoying kids CD recently. It is from that rack at the front of Kohl's where they always have the $5 "Kohl's Cares for Kids" stuff - cheap and your $5 goes to a good cause. Anyway, this one is a CD and songbook called "Philadelphia Chickens" which contains music written by the kids author Sandra Boynton (whose books are hilarious, by the way). The music ranges in style from hip hop to Bette Midler and The Andrews Sisters (isn't that who sings the Boogey Woogey Bugle Boy song) to Willie Nelson. It is so funny. My personal favorite is called "Please Can I Keep It", (you can imagine what that's about) and the chocolate chip cookie song, an 80's love song with a chorus of "Chocolate chip cookie, so high on the shelf, hiding inside of the jar. I'm not tall enough to reach you myself - so near and yet so very far." So cute - we all 4 love it. There are a couple other sets from the same series that I'll be picking up next time I'm in there.
My other top consumer pick of the week - Edy's Loaded Butterfinger Ice Cream. I may never need another DQ blizzard again!
Funny conversation of the day -
Dad - Katie, do you want some dessert?
Katie - (with peanut butter sandwich hanging out of her mouth) Hold on dad, I'll tell you in a minute. I can't talk with my mouth full.
Wouldn't no or yes have been easier?
Whatever. I hope you have a good week, whoever you are!

Recent Conversations
The other day at the Chiropractor, the sweet lady at the desk told me she could listen to Katie talk all day. She really could, because Katie does talk all day. Truly all day! Here is a snippet of our conversation last night on the way home from a friends house.
K - Mom, when we get home, can I have a bedtime snack?
M - Okay. You can have banana, grapes or an apple.
K - What about a peanut butter sandwich?
M - You haven't had any fruit today so you should have some fruit.
K - But I haven't had any peanut butter today either.
M - (who is very tired, so not on top of her negotiating game) Okay. You can have a peanut butter sandwich.
K - Okay. But I think I'll have an apple.
Nice. Today, Micah was the one cracking me up. Whereas Katie talks all day in English, Micah speaks some other language. Once I figure out what language it is, I'll get the "Learning Conversational ________________" CD. In the meantime, our conversations are fairly one-sided. Today at lunch he was wearing this red t-shirt where the whole shirt is Elmo's face, so you just see eyes, nose and mouth printed on it. And so....
Mom - Here little Mike, have a bite of eggs. (I pass the eggs on a fork because he likes everything on a fork so he doesn't get his hands dirty. He only likes dirt and poop and mud on his hands - I guess food grosses him out.)
Micah - (jabs the egg-laden fork onto his belly, which is Elmo's mouth.)
Mom - Mike eats the eggs, not Elmo. You love eggs. Elmo doesn't.
Micah - (hugs his egg-laden fork repeatedly. Wrong kind of egg loving.)
Mom - (jerks the fork away, which surprisingly still has eggs on it.) All done?
Micah - (hands open, palms up - means all done) AGEEEEEEE
Mom - No cookies yet. But thanks for asking.
Dad - (enters the scene) Hi Babe.
Mom - Hi. Want to know why there are eggs smeared on his belly and shoulder?
And that's a wrap!
By the way, we don't just talk about food at our house. Katie just strolled in while I was typing and told me that her 3 boyfriends are out there washing her car. I think she has got the right idea when it comes to the point of having a boyfriend (or 3)!
